Thirty five years of passion hit the stage in Verona, NY last night which held us captive with nostalgic memories. You see, many years ago my best friend Kathy and I were what you would probably call Air Supply groupies. Our kids grew up hearing every one of their songs over and over and over. During the performance last night my girls and I swayed to the music and sang along as if it were 20 or even 30 years ago. Screams from the audience from both young and old fans made me take pause. What was it that kept fans returning for over 35 years to hear Air Supply’s LOVE SONGS?
I concluded it was the way Russell and Graham brought their passion and purpose to the stage. By living their passion (that had spanned decades) without faltering they had the ability to send an electrified energy out to the audience and the audience in turn sent it right back.
As a Personal Success and Relationship Coach this fascinated me because I work daily with my clients on their passion and purpose. They know instinctively that if they tap into that energy their life will have more meaning. I believe passion ignites our soul and enables us to be more than we ever thought we could be.
I saw something else last night that helped me understand even more about Air Supply’s passion and purpose and that was gratitude. When our purpose is discovered and lived passionately over decades it seems the natural result is gratitude. Or is it the other way around? Does the gratitude come first which fuels the passion? Either way they seemed to go hand-in-hand last night.
I felt gratitude from the stage all evening for the fans. It really came to life for me when I had the band sign my tee shirt because during the signing Russell took my hand and squeezed it gently as if to say, “Thanks for still being a fan after all of these years.” A very deep gratitude was present.
What can we all do to tap into the kind of energy that spans the decades and keeps our hopes and dreams alive? The wonderful kind of energy that allows us be more every day than we thought we could be?
Start by believing in your dreams. Walk boldly into your life with your own unique purpose and live it with passion every day. And never forget to always have gratitude in your heart. You will be more than you thought you could be!
May you live your passion each day!
For those of you who are addicted to love songs, like I am, Air Supply has a new Album out in May titled Mumbo Jumbo.
